Hello World!
Hello world! Welcome to my first blog post on my redesigned website.
I recently redesigned this site editing an existing template from the Squarespace library. This includes trying out their blog creation tool, which will take some time getting used to. It’s not the typical feature-stuffed CMS like Wordpress, instead focusing more on SEO, social media, typography and a few more things, which is a good thing. There are some limitations though. For example, I wish I had more flexibility in where I could place pieces of content, like photos for example. I can only place them above or below the blog text and not, say, to the right (hello float! hello flexbox!). And I can’t change the image’s size either, as it defaults to the content width in my settings, which I have set to 100% of the parent container. But I can live with it, at least for now. Building a site from scratch is not really an option these days. Better to just refit an existing template and make it look nice and shiny.
This being my first blog post, and it being cloudy and wet outside, I figured the photo in this post should match today’s weather. The photo below was taken with my iPhone 7 Plus on January 18, 2017 in Palo Alto, California. On first view, it looks to be a black and white photo. But the little splotches of red light help it to pop and bring a seemingly dreary situation more to life.
This blog will focus mostly on what I find interesting, be it photography, music, books I’m reading, movies and TV shows I’m watching, general thoughts and more. So perhaps a bit intentionally scattered. There will be no politics here. For my thoughts on that, you can check me out on Bluesky. This is my little corner of the internet and I’ll be happy if just a few people read what I have to say. For now I have not enabled comments, but if you have something to tell me, tell me on Bluesky.
